SC GEOGRAPHIC BEE

Mia Borelli (7th grade) has been named South Carolina Geographic Bee Semifinalist by National Geographic Society.  The 2008 South Carolina Geographic Bee will be held at the South Carolina State Museum in Colunbia on Friday April 4, 2008. 


 

SCISA MUSIC FESTIVAL

Our seventh and eight grade choir under the direction of Lisa Sweeney competed at the SCISA Music Festival competition in Columbia SC on Wednesday March 12th.  Our choir won a silver medal for their performances.  Stephanie Raines (7th) won a silver medal as a vocal soloist.  Danny Stueber (7th) won a silver medal for his saxophone solo.  Jason Kolbush(7th) won a silver medal for his piano solo and Evan VonWaldner (7th) won a silver medal for his drum solo.  Francesca Tawil (7th) and Elizabeth Collins (7th) each won a gold medal for vocal solos.


 

MATH CONTEST

Congratulations to Laura Thompson (8th grade) and Mia Borelli (7th grade) who were First Place Winners for our school in the National Math League Contest.  National Merit awards went to: Lucy Martin, Tim Neitzel, Bo Strimpfel, Justin Shaw, Jason Kolbush, Robert Gregar, DAniel Ruegamer, and Francesca Tawil. 


 

SCIENCE FAIR 

The Middle School Science Fair was held on Thursday February 14th.  The following students received Honorable Mention for their projects: Jessica Neitzel - 6th grade, Kara Klein - 6th grade, Kathryn Vardzel - 6th grade, Elizabeth Collins - 7th grade, Maggie Stutzman - 7th grade, Madisen Phillips - 7th grade, Jane Vardzel 8th grade, Blake Kalan - 8th grade, Megan Kelley - 8th grade, and Laura Thompson - 8th grade.  Overall winners were Nicholas Xiques - 6th grade First Place, Anna Pittman - 8th grade Second Place and Jason Kolbush - 7th grade Third Place.

Jane Vardzel, Blake Kalan, Megan Kelley, Laura Thompson, Nicholas Xiques, Anna Pittman, and Jason Kolbush will go on to compete in the regional science fair on March 13 at Beaufort Middle School.

St. Francis by the Sea Poetry Club awards Gift Certificates

 

Fifth grade students Jake Hoffman, Leah Castner and Doninique Marmeno were awarded gift certificates to Barnes & Noble by the Saint Francis by the Sea Poetry Club. The students read their original poems at the Poetry Club's January 15th meeting.  The students also enjoyed some refresments and had the opportunity to listen to other selections of poetry.

St. Francis School recently received notice from the South Carolina Independent School Association that the school is fully accredited by this state accreding association.

St. Francis has also been accepted as associate members of two of the most prestigious accrediting associations in the country.  The Southern Association of Independent Schools and the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools.  Work on full accreditation has begun._
